Are You Hosting for Hope This Holiday Season?

hosting-for-hope-homesenseThe holiday season is the most joyous time of the year but it’s also one of the most stressful - especially for women. As the party-planner of the household, women are often expected to arrange all the holiday get-togethers: the Christmas eve dinner with her side of the family, the holiday brunch with his, drinks with girlfriends, the Open House for the neighbours, and even the kids’ school parties. The list is endless, and managing it all can leave women feeling frazzled. To help with the holiday havoc, HomeSense has launched the Hosting for Hope campaign to help simplify her life while giving hope to women who are trying to escape abuse and rebuild their lives.

Partnering with the Canadian Women's Foundation (CWF), HomeSense has created an online program designed to help women manage their holiday events while supporting local women’s shelters and violence prevention programs. The Canadian Women’s Foundation works to empower women and girls to move out of poverty, out of violence and into confidence. For over 20 years, the CWF has raised money and invested in over 1200 community programs across Canada, and are one of the 10 largest women’s foundations in the world.

When I came across this online campaign, I thought it was a fresh, creative idea and a step up from the generic, mass-produced Christmas cards I usually see in my mailbox from charities. HomeSense & the Canadian Women’s Foundation have found a perfect way to connect with women, who, by nature, are keepers of the relationships in their lives, at home, at work and in their community. These corporate partners know that, for a woman, helping those in need and giving back to her community is part of her legacy. Participating in the Hosting for Hope campaign is a simple, delightful and fulfilling way for women to make a difference during the holidays.

I think this campaign is a great way to bring awareness to an important social issue and a great way for HomeSense to market to women. Along with the online campaign, they have launched a line of Hosting for Hope gifts, available at HomeSense and Winners stores. The net proceeds from the purchase of these gifts will also be used to support local shelters and violence prevention programs.
